Forever Wild May Not
Be Forever Wild
Forever Wild May Not Be Wild Forever
June 2012 Update: Alabama's unemployment of 8.9% is higher than the national
average of 8.4%. Our counties are dealing with low tax revenue due to increased
average unemployment of 1.4% from May to June. Many counties are stuggling with
unemployment of 10% or more, upwards to greater than 15%. Therefore, where is
the sanity to obligate $15 million per year for 20 years fully not knowing what
our economy will look like next year or 20 years from now.
Every day we witness the beauty of nature surrounding us during
our daily activities. From a rainbow, a wild bunny, deer in a pasture, a slow
moving stream rippling over rocks and fallen tree branches, or turkey buzzards
funneling above.
Most of us have stopped and helped a slow moving turtle across a
road. While
admiring the beauty of nature we demand the best use of OUR money.
How many acres are desired beyond the already acquired 227,000?
Does Forever Wild still have the 227,000 acres in their inventory or has any
been traded, sold, or lease not renewed?
One must wonder how forever wild is defined and regulated when
active gas wells are on multi-year leased Forever Wild property. One must also
question what is forever wild about the use of herbicides around these gas
wells.
Let the truth be known, Forever Wild is not financed with tax
dollars, however the money used to acquire these lands are in fact OUR dollars
from OUR Alabama Trust Fund and should be used for the benefit of all Alabama
citizens.
During our recent visits to Forever Wild tracts we did not see any
employees or volunteers. We did see a lot of locked gates and on occasion
unkept grounds.
Hunting is purported to be a major attraction to Forever Wild
land. However, most people do not know of Forever Wild and hunting is severely
restricted. Mulberry Fork Wildlife Management Area offers a deer hunt only on
January 27 and 28.http://www.notforeverwild.org/
This link speaks for itself. An Amendment will be on the State Ballot this November to add yet another $20M per year from the State Fund for the purchase of land for the forever wild program. While it "sounds reasonable", on further inspection it is not. The site speaks for itself and speaks volumes on how the program is actually run and by whom.
The State of Alabama, like every other State in this "Union" is in serious financial trouble. There are many, many more demands on the State Treasury that make this program an unreal, and unnecessary burden.
Please browse the site for REAL information on the Forever Wild Program and don't "succumb" to the big business and "liberal groups" (Sierra Club) ads.
We have human needs that require our attention.
If you agree, after learning what you can from the website. Please pass it on to others you know in Alabama.
