My Day At Chik-Fil-A
In honor of our First Amendment, I decided to venture out to Chik-Fil-A today, and show my support for a company whose owner stands up for his personal family values.
There are only 2 Chik-Fil-A’s in Minnesota. One at the airport, which you can’t visit unless you happen to have a ticket for a flight, and one at the University of Minnesota in the on-campus Coffman Union building. The Coffman Union is the place where students gather between classes, and it has areas to study, a bowling alley, a sports bar, bank, and various fast food venues. One of those venues was Chik-Fil-A.
I knew there was construction going on in the area, but I had no idea how bad it was. The University is smack in the middle of light rail construction, so I had to park about 5 blocks away and walk the fenced-off sidewalk maze beside it. Here’s what the mess looked like:
After walking through this crazy mess, which took about ten minutes, I arrived at the beautiful Coffman Union. I was walking behind 2 guys that I was pretty sure were heading for Chik-Fil-A. One of them was wearing a military baseball cap with an eagle on it, and that kind of gave it away for me. I said, “You must be looking for Chik-Fil-A”, and the guy with the hat said, “How did you guess?” I said, “Oh, lucky hunch”. We walked into Coffman, and I told the two men that the restaurants were downstairs. You could already smell the chicken in the air. Mmmm, it smelled nummy.

I expected a lousy turn-out, as the streets were so messed up, and you couldn’t park anywhere close to the building. Boy, was I was wrong! There was a huge line leading into the tiny Chik-Fil-A, out the door, around the corner, and down a hallway.
You have to remember that school is out for the summer, so the campus was pretty empty. Maneuvering around that construction, and getting to this place was a pain in the buttocks, and yet, there were close to 150 people in line at 1:45 in the afternoon. Chik-Fil-A was supposed to close at 2 PM, but they didn’t. They stayed open to accommodate all of their customers. Talk about customer service! I can only imagine how many people were lined up to eat when they opened their doors at 11 AM.
While in line(for an hour) I chatted with a man named Vern, who’d driven in from the Minneapolis suburb of Blaine. That’s an hours drive, folks, and I’m not even counting the time it would take for Vern to find a place to park and then walk to the Chik-Fil-A. We chatted about how important it was to stand up for the 1st Amendment rights of the owner of this chain. The First Amendment rights of ALL Americans. Vern was a nice guy, and like me, he came alone. He was buying food for his family of four, and hauling it all the way back to Blaine. In our conversation he told me that his family had moved out of Minneapolis because they were being killed by all of the outrageous taxes. He told me that the crime in his Minneapolis neighborhood had gotten bad, and the schools for his children were even worse. Good thing those idiots in Minneapolis voted in a liberal Democratic Mayor, huh? I found out from Vern that we’d lived less than a mile from each other, as I used to live in South Minneapolis myself. Small world, isn’t it?
Anyway, there were no lefty protesters there, probably because they would actually have to make an EFFORT to get to that Chik-Fil-A, and you know how lazy lefties are. They want everything for nothing, and don’t expect to work for it. I should mention that this building, the Coffman Union, is the number one site on campus for protests and radical lefties. For the first time ever, I got to see this building filled with hundreds of average citizens standing up for freedom instead of seeing it filled with drum-beating, useless hipsters. The whole experience made me feel so proud of my fellow Americans.
By the way, the waffle fries were to die for(I ate them all before I even got to my car) and that spicy chicken sandwich was out of this world. I’m a typical meat and potatoes girl, and I’ve gotta say I had to drink a large glass of water after chowing down on that spicy sandwich, but boy was it worth every bite!
Here’s a shot of downtown Minneapolis that I took from the walk bridge above that messy construction. It’s a beautiful city. I pray that Minnesotans will come to their senses and vote out the leftist do-gooders who run this town. If they don’t, I fear we could go the way of Detroit.
In the meantime, I plan to visit Chik-Fil-A again, and support not only the CEO of that company, but the wonderful people who work there. Visit one yourself some time. Freedom is deelicious!
