Police say Rob Morrison, a 44-year-old morning news anchor for WCBS, choked his wife Ashley during a fight at the couple’s Connecticut home Sunday morning, and threatened her again after his arrest.
The incident allegedly took place in Darien, Conn., where police issued a statement saying: “Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands.”
Darien police responded to the Morrisons’ $1.26 million home about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after Ashley’s mother called to report a domestic incident.
Officers discovered Ashley Morrison, 40, with red marks on her neck, and Rob Morrison, a former U.S. Marine, bleeding from his face.
On Monday, the media pair issued a joint statement through their attorney.
“The Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerated,” the statement said. “While this matter is being addressed, Rob and Ashley hope that their family’s privacy will be respected.”
According to the New York Daily News, Rob Morrison was “still steaming as he was getting booked.”
While being processed, he “made verbal threats to do his wife additional harm, which were overheard by arresting officers,” Darien police said.
When pressed for an explanation Monday night, Rob Morrison was tight-lipped.
“We, my son, wife and myself are fine, thank you,” he told the Daily News in an email.
Mr. Morrison has an appearance before a Stamford, Conn., judge on Tuesday.
He’s charged with second-degree strangulation, a felony, as well as misdemeanor threatening and disorderly conduct.
