President Obama snagged former personal aide – but still BFF – Reggie Love a coveted ticket to the Olympics closing ceremonies, appointing him to be a member of the “presidential delegation” attending the event.
Love will join UN Representative Susan Rice, the ambassador to Great Britain, Michelle Kwan, and a couple of others as the official representatives of the United States. I assume Love will go there at taxpayer expense.
What business Love has doing on the delegation is unclear, other than that Obama likes him. Love no longer works at the White House, though he still hangs out sometimes with the president and helps out with his reelection bid.
Love’s own athletic career extends to failing to make the NFL.
Not only does Love get to see the closing ceremonies, he will “attend athletic events” and “meet with U.S. athletes,” according to the White House.
The president’s personal aide is hardly a significant figure – he basically follows the president around and provides for his every little need. We in the White House press corps use to refer the personal aide as “butt boy,” though I haven’t heard the term used in a long time.
This is not the first time the personal aide has gotten inordinately fabulous treatment from a president. George W. Bush in 2008 for some reason promoted his butt boy, Blake Gottesman, to be deputy of chief of staff.
