Though Allen West, sadly, was gerrymandered  out of his House seat, 5 shining stars in the Republican Party continue to wage the war against Islam

The Left insists on calling them the Top 5 Islam-Bashing Republicans to Watch in 2013. But an overwhelming majority of Republican voters regard the West and Islam as being embroiled in “a fundamental conflict which only one side can win.” And left up to the Democrat dhimmis, God forbid, we know which side that would be.

1. Michele Bachmann

Last summer, Bachmann garnered national attention when she and other Republicans alleged that the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian-based political movement that spread throughout the Middle East, had “penetrated” the U.S. government.

Bachmann singled out a prominent Muslim-American aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton named Huma Abedin as being part of the conspiracy. The Minnesota congresswoman made the allegations in letters sent to U.S. government officials. The letter questioned whether there was “direct influence” on the intelligence community from “[Muslim] Brotherhood operatives.” And the letter also mentioned that Abedin has “family members” connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Her letter to U.S. government officials made clear that Bachmann got her ideas from Frank Gaffney, a former Reagan aide and prominent anti-Islam expert. Gaffney is a leading anti-Muslim activist in the U.S., and has produced a 10-part online series about the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence in the U.S. But the idea that the Muslim Brotherhood is plotting from within is a McCarthyite theory that casts aspersions on Muslim-Americans within the U.S. government. There is also no evidence to support the theory. (Except that there is. See article posted above)

In 2011, Bachmann stoked fear about sharia law–Islamic law–taking over U.S. courts.

2. Peter King

He may have lost his chairmanship of the Homeland Security committee due to party-imposed term-limits, but you can count on King stoking the flames of fear towards Islam next year. King, a Republican hailing from Long Island, used his post as chair of the House Homeland Security Committee to specifically target the problem of terrorism within the Muslim community. After serving for seven years, King is no longer the head of the committee, though he will remain a member.

King held a total of five separate hearings on Islam and terrorism in the United States,  to focus on the threat of “homegrown” terrorism from Muslims.

His first hearing sparked the most controversy. Titled “The Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Community’s Response,” it was based on King’s assumption that the Muslim community in the U.S. is prone to breeding extremists. In 2004, King claimed that “80%, 85% of the mosques in this country are controlled by Islamic fundamentalists.”

King courted even more controversy based on one of his star witnesses at the first hearing: Zuhdi Jasser, an activist who has become the right’s spokesMuslim. Jasser is the head of a group called the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, which is funded by anti-Muslim figures like the right-wing Christian Foster Friess. Many Muslim organizations say that Jasser has little following among American Muslims (What a surprise, he tells the truth about them). Jasser narrated an Islamorealistic film titled “The Third Jihad,” that was shown to New York Police Department officers as training and claims that Muslim extremists are plotting from within to take over the U.S. (Now banned from police training thanks to whining by the Islamofascists at CAIR)

Other statements in King’s past show that his motivation to root out Muslim extremism in the U.S. is based on his claim about mosques in the U.S. being run by radical extremists (many are) and has also claimed that “the Muslim community does not cooperate anywhere near to the extent that it should” on terrorism-related cases. 3. Mike McCaul

For the House Homeland Security Committee, McCaul, a Republican hailing from Texas, has dutifully served alongside King on the committee. And now, he’s getting his chance to run it on his own. Since King was forced out of the top spot due to party-imposed parameters, McCaul has been tapped to lead the Homeland Security Committee. McCaul’s history of exposing Muslim terrorism in the US shows why he will likely lead the committee similar to how King did.

In fact, McCaul strongly supported the King-led hearings focusing on Muslim-Americans. McCaul praised King’s hearings as a way to “end the era of political correctness.” During the hearing itself, McCaul said:  “I am mystified by the controversy that has followed from this.” After King’s fifth set of hearings, McCaul said that the “U.S. should not overlook the correlation between Islam and national security.”

McCaul appeared on Frank Gaffney’s radio show last year–the same radio show where Gaffney has spread his well-documented theories about sharia law and the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. And McCaul didn’t bat an eye, or mutter any response, when Gaffney carried on about the “Muslim Brotherhood’s operations in the United States.” (See article above) When he got a chance to speak, McCaul indulged in speculation about the “threat” of Hezbollah, the Lebanese armed group, in the Western Hemisphere

4. Louie Gohmert

This Texas Republican has been a leader in speaking out about the dangers of Islam before. Gohmert made headlines with remarks about Islam and President Barack Obama. He suggested that Obama’s allegiances were with Islamic states instead of the U.S. “I know the president made the mistake one day of saying he had visited all 57 states, and I’m well aware that there are not 57 states in this country, although there are 57 members of OIC, the Islamic states in the world,” Gohmert said on the House floor. “Perhaps there was some confusion whether he’d been to all 57 Islamic states as opposed to all 50 U.S. states. But nonetheless, we have an obligation to the 50 American states, not the 57 Muslim, Islamic states…This administration [has been]  complicit in helping people who wants [sic] to destroy our country.”

Gohmert’s speech played into the right-wing conspiracy theory that Obama was a secret Muslim in league with anti-American Islamists. In line with that theory, Gohmert has also suggested that Obama listens to advisers from the Muslim Brotherhood.

In recent years, Arizona Republican Trent Franks has taken to demonizing Muslim-Americans. In 2009, Franks was one of four Republicans to call for an investigation of the Muslim Brotherhood proxy Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), proven to have links to terrorist group Hamas. The GOP members claimed an investigation was needed into whether CAIR was “spying” on Congressional offices in order to influence policy.

The evidence for that charge was a 2007 CAIR memo that called for placing Muslim interns in key Congressional offices in order to influence policy on issues important to Muslim-Americans–something that every interest group does in Washington.

Franks’ anti-Muslim fear-mongering didn’t stop in 2009, though. The next year, he showed support for Frank Gaffney’s theory that sharia law was on the march in the U.S., led by Muslim-American organizations with links to the Muslim Brotherhood who were plotting from within.

Predictably, the latest iteration of Franks’ ‘Islamophobia’ was his signature on Bachmann’s McCarthyite letter about Muslim Brotherhood influence in the U.S. government and Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Claims 6 American Muslims have strong influence on U.S. policy

Effectively affirming the concerns of five much-maligned Republican House members and the evidence presented in an investigative book, an Egyptian magazine claims six American Muslim leaders who work with the Obama administration are Muslim Brotherhood operatives who have significant influence on U.S. policy.

Egypt’s Rose El-Youssef magazine, in a Dec. 22 story, said the six men turned the White House “from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

IPT said that while the story is largely unsourced, it is significant because it raises the issue to Egyptian readers.

The article names Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development; Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council; Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference; Salam al-Marayati, co-founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, or MPAC); Imam Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA; and Eboo Patel, a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.

Meanwhile, outspoken Republican congressman Louie Gohmert has been pressing for an investigation of the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence on the federal government, contending a probe is necessary because of the Obama administration’s “horrendous decisions” in backing the so-called “Arab Spring” revolutions in the Middle East.

The East Texas lawmaker was one of five Republican Congress members who stirred bipartisan controversy in June by raising concern about Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the nation’s capital.

The Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood was formed in the 1920s after the demise of the Ottoman Turkish empire with the intent of helping establish Islamic rule worldwide. It’s stated goal for the U.S. is “a kind of grand jihad” aimed at “eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within” so that “Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

In 2009, the WND Books bestseller “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret World That’s Conspiring to Islamize America” featured an internal Council on American-Islamic Relations memo written in 2007 that called for infiltrating the “judiciary, intelligence and homeland security committees” by, among other things, “placing Muslim interns” in Capitol Hill offices.

The book also uncovered new evidence that CAIR directly funded Hamas and al-Qaida terrorist fronts.

When the book was released, Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., co-founder of the bipartisan House Anti-Terrorism/Jihad Caucus and a member of the House Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence, pointed out at a press conference in Washington that groups such as CAIR and the Islamic Society of North America “have a proven record of senior officials being indicted and either imprisoned or deported from the United States.”

She noted evidence presented at the trial of the Texas-based Muslim charity Holy Land Foundation, convicted of funding Hamas, exposed CAIR, ISNA and others as front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States.

Myrick exposed the absence of a formal vetting process by Congress for screening radical Muslims invited to work or pray or speak at the Capitol. CAIR, consequently, placed a number of employees within the Capitol, including known terrorists and terrorist suspects.

CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, for example, invited al-Qaida terrorist Anwar Awlaki to speak and pray at the Capitol. Awad also helped get Awlaki into the Pentagon within months of Awlaki assisting the 9/11 hijackers, Catherine Herridge revealed in her book “The Next Wave.”

The Egyptian magazine noted Alikhan is a founder of the World Islamic Organization, identifying it as a Brotherhood “subsidiary,” IPT reported.

Alikhan was responsible for the “file of Islamic states” in the White House and provides the direct link between the Obama administration and the Arab Spring revolutions of 2011, according to the magazine.

Elibiary, as WND reported in October 2011, was singled out by Gohmert at a House hearing. The Republican congressman confronted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano with a charge that Elibiary, who had a security clearance as a member of the DHS advisory council, accessed a federal database and shopped sensitive reports to a left-leaning media outlet to publicize his claim that the department is promoting “Islamophobia”

Elibiary, president and CEO of the Freedom and Justice Foundation of Carrollton, Texas, has been a strong supporter of the radical Islamic theologian Sayyid Qutb, whose teachings inspired and continue to govern al-Qaida and Islamic jihadist organizations worldwide.

Former assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy documents that the DHS advisory group helped devise the new Obama counterterrorism strategy. McCarthy, who prosecuted the perpetrators of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, said the strategy “has law-enforcement pare back their intelligence-gathering activities and take their marching orders from ‘community partners.’”

WND reported in 2004 that Elibiary spoke at a conference that honored the founder of the Iranian Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini. Elibiary has strongly criticized the U.S. government’s prosecution of fundraisers for Hamas and is a defender of CAIR.

He has criticized the U.S. government’s prosecution and conviction of the Holy Land Foundation and five former officials for providing more than $12 million to Hamas, characterizing the case as a defeat for the United States.

The Egyptian magazine, Rose El-Youssef, said Rashad Hussain maintained close ties with people and groups in the Muslim Brotherhood network in America. He took part, the magazine noted, in the June 2002 annual conference of the American Muslim Council, formerly headed by convicted terrorist financier Abdurahman Alamoudi.

He also was on the organizing committee of the Critical Islamic Reflection along with key Brotherhood figures such as Jamal Barzinji, Hisham al-Talib and Yaqub Mirza.

MPAC’s al-Marayati has been among the most influential Muslim American leaders in recent years, IPT pointed out. The Egyptian magazine shows the links between MPAC and the international Muslim Brotherhood infrastructure.

Obama appointed Magid, chief of the Muslim Brotherhood-founded ISNA, as an adviser to the Department of Homeland Security. Magid also has also given speeches and conferences on American Middle East policy at the State Department and offered advice to the FBI, the Egyptian magazine said.

Patel maintains a close relationship with Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hasan al-Banna, Rose El-Youssef reported. He’s a member of the Muslim Students Association, which was identified as a Muslim Brotherhood front group in a 1991 document introduced into evidence during the Holy Land Foundation trial.

Investigation warranted

In July, Gohmert, along with Rep. Michele Bachmann, R, Minn., and three other Republican House members, pointed to Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, as a possible Muslim Brotherhood influence on U.S. policy. The lawmakers asked the inspector generals at the departments of Homeland Security, Justice and State to investigate, prompting Democrats and Republicans to rush to Abedin’s defense.

However, as WND reported, Abedin worked for an organization founded by her family that is effectively at the forefront of a grand Saudi plan to mobilize U.S. Muslim minorities to transform America into a strict Wahhabi-style Islamic state, according to an Arabic-language manifesto issued by the Saudi monarchy. Abedin also was a member of the executive board of the Brotherhood’s Muslim Student Association.

The internal memo said Muslim Brotherhood members “must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and by the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

Gohmert and other advocates for an investigation of the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence on the U.S. government argue a simple reading of security clearance guidelines in reference to Huma Abedin’s family would warrant investigation.

The Center for Security Policy notes that security clearance guidelines for federal employees state a “security risk may exist when an individual’s immediate family, including cohabitants and other persons to whom he or she may be bound by affection, influence, or obligation are not citizens of the United States or may be subject to duress.”

The guidelines express concern for any “association or sympathy with persons or organizations that advocate the overthrow of the United States Government, or any state or subdivision, by force or violence or by other unconstitutional means.”

Nevertheless, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank has suggested researchers and lawmakers who have presented evidence of the Muslim Brotherhood ties of Abedin and her family are motivated by racism. He commented in a column that it’s “hard to escape the suspicion” that the charges have “something to do with the way she looks and how she worships.”

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called the request for an investigation of Abedin and her family a “sinister” and “nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman, a dedicated American and a loyal public servant.”

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) took a shot at President Obama’s foreign policy in an impassioned speech on the House floor Wednesday, slamming the administration’s response to the killings of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, by radical Islamists during an attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya.

After paying tribute to Stevens, Gohmert seemingly lectured the current administration on its duty to protect the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

“It does not help when an administration in response to American attacks on American Soil and American individuals, the administration ends up asking Americans to give up their First Amendment rights for which our service members are fighting,” Gohmert said. “It doesn’t help when a general asks an American to give up your First Amendment rights rather than proclaiming, ‘We’re the United States military, you have attacked our country, you have attacked our brothers and sisters, and you will pay for that.’”

But that’s not how the federal government responded to the crisis, he explained. After a group of radical Islamists tore apart an American flag at a U.S. consulate in Cairo, the embassy released a statement apologizing for people in America that may have hurt the “religious feelings” of Muslims. To be fair, the White House later released a statement distancing itself from the apology.

“It’s OK to burn a Bible, that’s OK,” Gohmert said, mocking the current administration. “OK to burn a flag, OK, that’s all right,” he continued. “But just, you know, for heaven‘s sake don’t say anything that might offend someone of the Islamic religion.”

Gohmert said he doesn’t encourage anyone to offend Muslims but added that “we should defend ourselves against radical Islamists that want to annihilate this country and destroy our way of life.” President Obama has failed thus far to address the threat of radical Islam, according to Gohmert.

While several U.S. officials and various news reports initially insisted the attacks on the embassy in Libya were because of an anti-Muslim YouTube clip, Gohmert suggested the attack was coordinated and planned to occur on Sept. 11, using the video as a cover to carry out the assault. To back up his claim, he cited a Fox News report. The U.S. government is now investigating whether the attack was indeed planned in advance, according to The New York Times.

The Texas congressman also criticized President Obama for declining an invitation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet when he is in the United States. He suggested Obama squeeze him into his schedule when he’s not playing golf or holding fundraisers.

“We see people in the Middle East begin to have dreams of new Ottoman Empire where everyone will be subjected to some of what we‘ve seen happen in those countries where we helped bring about an Arab Spring that’s turned into a Winter nightmare,” he said. “This is not a time to play petty personal games, to snub leaders of friends, of allies, even when you disagree with them for heaven’s sake.”

He went on: “Take a little time from a fundraiser, take a little time that you don’t go to the golf course and meet with the leader of a country that sees hatred for its people, anti-semitism, the racism, the bigotry growing around the world, who is scared for its own existence, who can‘t be sure that we’re going to be there with them because of the actions of this administration.”

“I mean, it is an inconvenient thing to have to be president when you really are best at running for office,” he said.
