All the talk about how Super PACS were going to buy the elections doesn’t seem to be panning out. John Podhoretz at the New York Post reports that, already, just in Florida and Ohio alone, the super PACs have spent a staggering $218 million. That’s more than twice the ad budget for the summer blockbuster, “The Avengers.” And the result? In both states, a dead heat. Of course, you could argue that with this economy, Obama should be down 20 points, and all those PAC ads accusing Romney of giving people cancer are what’s keeping him afloat. We may soon find out, once we’re past the conventions, and voters finally start paying more attention. Let’s hope voters tune out the negative ads and vote based on the facts, and that all that PAC spending turns out to be just the greatest subsidy ever devised for keeping radio and TV stations profitable.

Finally, I want to share my closing thoughts from my convention speech last night. I hope you will share them with your friends and family...
Sometimes, we’re so close to the picture, we can’t really see it clearly. I’ve worked with Bono for the past few years in the ONE campaign to fight AIDS and hunger and disease around the world. He’s an Irishman and-- a great humanitarian who told me of his admiration for America. He said we’re more than a country; we’re an idea. He reminded me that we are an exceptional nation with an extraordinary history who owes it to the generations coming after us to leave them an extraordinary legacy. If we don’t change the direction of our nation now, we won’t do that. But we can do better. President Obama is out of gas; Americans are out of patience, and our great Republic is almost out of time. It’s time we no longer lead from behind, but get off our behinds and leave something lasting for those who come after us instead of a mountain of debt and a pile of excuses. Tonight, it’s not because we’re Republicans; it’s because we’re Americans that we proudly stand with Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to say we will do better!
Sincerely,
Mike Huckabee
