HYPOCRISY RUN AMOK: GORE SAYS AL-JAZEERA, MURDOCH SAYS AL-RISALA… LET’S CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF

Last week, TheBlaze published a series of articles detailing the sale of Al Gore’s Current TV to the Qatar-based Al Jazeera network. Established was also the fact that Gore and company made a point of claiming that the reasons for choosing to sell to Al Jazeera stemmed from their aligned ideologies. Since Al Jazeera was first to provide a forum to Osama bin Laden immediately following the 9/11 attacks, has consistently propogated blood libel and hosts a rabidly anti-Semitic, anti-Western Islamic televangelist as its star-talent, the idea of such “shared goals and visions” is unsettling to say the least.
Which brings us to what really compelled Gore and his partners at Current TV to sell their network to Al Jazeera. Money.
Indeed, it is not so far fetched to think that perhaps Current executives were simply acting in the name of capitalism. After all, it would be difficult for Gore to turn down $100 million of the $500 million total offer Al Jazeera placed on the table. Not to mention, while we don’t have access to all of the offers the network received, it stands to reason al Jazeera’s was likely the highest offer Current had received.
Now if Current executives had been forthright in their motivations for selling to Al Jazeera, while some  would still not have liked their choice, it would have gone a long way in fostering at least a modicum of respect for the sheer honesty alone. What most critics are likely upset about is thehypocrisy involved — and that hypocrisy spans an extensive gamut including but not limited to:
  • An “environmentalist-pioneer” (Al Gore) selling out to a network funded by Middle East big oil.
  • A proudly liberal Current claiming it shares core values with a network that consistently perpetuates anti-Semitism, anti-Western sentiment and whose “talent” openly supports the whipping if not outright execution of gays and lesbians, the subjugation of women, and a host of other ills anathema to human rights and true progressivism.
  • A man who, some might claim favors the “fair share” meme, trying with all his might to push through the Al Jazeera deal prior to January 2013 in order to avoid the increased capital gains taxes that would be incurred following the enactment of the Fiscal Cliff bill. He failed in his efforts, however, making Gore, in the words of Blaze finance writer Becket Adams, “the world’s lousiest tax-dodger.”
But are Al Gore and his cohorts the only ones playing both sides against the middle here? Fox News, while its anchors and pundits have been astute in pointing out the intellectual and ethical inconsistencies of Current TV executives, seem to be missing one fairly glaring example of hypocrisy right in their own backyard: Namely that Fox head Rupert Murdoch owns nearly 20 percent of Rotana Media, the Arab world’s largest entertainment company and parent of the Kuwait-based network al Risala.
What’s more, al Risala, which is Arabic for “The Islamic Message,” is owned by Saudi prince Talal bin Alwaleed, who also happens to own a 7 percent share of Murdoch’s News Corp., making him the largest single shareholder after the Murdoch family. This in itself might not raise eyebrows if it were not for the type of content al Risala dissemniates on a regular basis, which is an amalgamation of anti-Semitic blood libel, Islamist-supremacy, anti-Western sentiment and Muslim Brotherhood  propaganda.
Dr. Andrew Bostom, scholar and author of “Sharia versus Freedom” and author Diana West have provided a wealth of information showcasing the type of Muslim Brotherhood-driven content offered on al Risala as well as greater details on Murdoch’s stake in the media outlet. But other than a precious few who have sat up and taken notice, who else will speak out when the double-standard no longer fits the narrative they’d hope to spin?
It might not have been popular for West or Bostom to call Murdoch’s bluff — after all, Fox Network has typically been a powerful champion against the very ideals al Jazeera and al Risala embody — but they believe that integrity matters. What is good for the goose is just as good for the gander.
On the satirical front, Daily Show host Jon Stewart took a jab at Fox in a segment that duly noted the double-standard at play when the network’s talking heads condemned Al Gore. The issue, however, is that while correct in his assessment of Fox, Stewart simultaneously downplayed al Jazeera’s true nature by characterizing it as simply a “Muslim” network disseminating a Muslim – not an Islamist — point of view. That, of course, is disingenuous, unless he seeks to imply that everyday Muslims share the same worldview as imam Yussuf al-Qawadari.
Now one might posit that since Murdoch never vocalized sharing the same goals and values of the various networks he helps to fund, he is somehow exculpated from wrongdoing. It can also be argued that since al Risala is not (yet) catering to an American audience, the Australian media mogul has managed to keep above the fray, or at least, beneath the radar when it comes to hypocrisy. At the end of the day, so long as money rules the day and people continue to invest in businesses with blood on their hands, capitalism will continue to be given a bad name. It doesn’t matter which side of the political fence the investors fall on, they will be judged, and rightly so, based on the company they keep.

Al-Jazeera buys Current TV from Al Gore

Al-Jazeera, the Pan-Arab news channel that has struggled to win space on American cable television, has acquired Current TV, Gore confirmed Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013. (AP Photo/Danny Moloshok, File)
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Al-Jazeera, the Pan-Arab news channel that struggled to win space on American cable television, has acquired Current TV, boosting its reach in the U.S. nearly ninefold to about 40 million homes. With a focus on U.S. news, it plans to rebrand the left-leaning news network that cofounder Al Gore couldn't make relevant.
The former vice president confirmed the sale Wednesday, saying in a statement that Al-Jazeera shares Current TV's mission "to give voice to those who are not typically heard; to speak truth to power; to provide independent and diverse points of view; and to tell the stories that no one else is telling."
The acquisition lifts Al-Jazeera's reach beyond a few large U.S. metropolitan areas including New York and Washington, where about 4.7 million homes can now watch Al-Jazeera English.
Al-Jazeera, owned by the government of Qatar, plans to gradually transform Current into a network called Al-Jazeera America by adding five to 10 new U.S. bureaus beyond the five it has now and hiring more journalists. More than half of the content will be U.S. news and the network will have its headquarters in New York, spokesman Stan Collender said.
Collender said there are no rules against foreign ownership of a cable channel — unlike the strict rules limiting foreign ownership of free-to-air TV stations. He said the move is based on demand, adding that 40 percent of viewing traffic on Al-Jazeera English's website is from the U.S.
"This is a pure business decision based on recognized demand," Collender said. "When people watch Al-Jazeera, they tend to like it a great deal."
Al-Jazeera has long struggled to get carriage in the U.S., and the deal suffered an immediate casualty as Time Warner Cable Inc., the nation's second-largest cable TV operator, announced it is dropping Current TV due to the deal.
"Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service. We are removing the service as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement.
Previous to Al-Jazeera's purchase, Current TV was in 60 million homes. It is carried by Comcast Corp., which owned less than a 10 percent stake in Current TV, as well as DirecTV. Neither company announced plans to drop the channel.
In 2010, Al-Jazeera English's managing director, Tony Burman, blamed a "very aggressive hostility" from the Bush administration for reluctance among cable and satellite companies to show the network.
Even so, Al-Jazeera has garnered respect for its ability to build a serious news product in a short time. In a statement announcing the deal, it touted numerous U.S. journalism awards it received in 2012, including the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award Grand Prize and the Scripps Howard Award for Television/Cable In-Depth Reporting.
But there may be a culture clash at the network. Dave Marash, a former "Nightline" reporter who worked for Al-Jazeera in Washington, said he left the network in 2008 in part because he sensed an anti-American bias there.
Current, meanwhile, began as a groundbreaking effort to promote user-generated content. But it has settled into a more conventional format of political talk television with a liberal bent. Gore worked on-air as an analyst during its recent election night coverage.
Its leading personalities are former New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Cenk Uygur, a former political commentator on MSNBC who hosts the show called "The Young Turks." Current signed Keith Olbermann to be its top host in 2011 but his tenure lasted less than a year before it ended in bad blood on both sides.
Current has largely been outflanked by MSNBC in its effort be a liberal alternative to the leading cable news network, Fox News Channel.
Current hired former CNN Washington bureau chief David Bohrman in 2011 to be its president. Bohrman pushed the network to innovate technologically, with election night coverage that emphasized a conversation over social media.
Current TV, founded in 2005 by former vice president Gore and Joel Hyatt, is expected to post $114 million in revenue in 2013, according to research firm SNL Kagan. The firm pegged the network's cash flow at nearly $24 million a year.

Caroline Wozniacki is a RACIST! Racist I say

Tennis player Caroline Wozniacki accused of 'racist' impersonation of Serena Williams by stuffing bra and pants

  • The 22-year-old Dane stuffed courtside towels down her kit to mimic the voluptuous figure of Williams
  • Walked out on the court to laughter during her exhibition match against Maria Sharapova in Sao Paulo
Caroline Wozniacki has been accused of doing a 'racist' impersonation of fellow tennis player Serena Williams after stuffing her bra and shorts.
At a recent exhibition against Maria Sharapova in Brazil, the former world No. 1 stuffed courtside towels down her kit to replicate the body of the curvaceous Grand Slam champion.
But now the 22-year-old Dane, whose boyfriend golfer Rory McIlroy was in the crowd, has now been accused of racism by some observers.

On Tumblr, one blogger wrote: 'This isn’t “harmless fun” as one article described it. its racist. out and outright racism. mocking and making fun of the bodies of black women for a laugh? real funny, stupid white girl. real real funny.'

Another blogger pointed out: 'It may have been done in “jest,” but I love how people can can turn a black woman’s body and sexuality into a caricature. However, we should not have the autonomy to celebrate any successes of our own.
While on feministing.com, an article read: 'Given the history and current-day context of racialized standards of beauty, and the hypersexualization of people of color, when a white woman makes fun of a black women’s body, especially in a way that hypersexualizes her and draws on the stereotype of black women’s big butts, it’s racist.'
Humour: The joke was not lost on her friend Williams, also in Brazil to promote the 2016 Games, who tweeted: 'Do they make Brazilian bikinis for, um, well, me?'.

Williams is well known for referring to her curvaceous figure - the day before the tennis star, also in Brazil to promote the 2016 Games, had tweeted: 'Do they make Brazilian bikinis for, um, well, me?'.
In July she tweeted a photo of her bottom, with the accompanying words: 'Hummm I think this onzie makes me butt look TOO big. Ugh. #BigButtproblems.'
Wozniacki mentioned during a press conference after the game that she was performing an impression of her friend and fellow tennis player Serena Williams.
She said: 'I really love the crowd here, they're open and they have a lot of fun.'
This was not the first time Wozniacki imitated the American icon - she also copied her last year as well.
Tennis impersonations are usually the hallmark of Novak Djokovic - the Serb has imitated off rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, as well as women's stars Williams and Sharapova.

Why Is Higher Education So Expensive?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8GTa_swC-OE

Published on Dec 10, 2012
It's no secret that U.S. college tuition costs are rising dramatically, and the high cost of a college education burdens young people and their families. How can we make college more affordable?

Many suggest that the best way to keep tuition affordable is by increasing government assistance through student loans, grants, and tax credits for education. Professor Daniel Lin shows that doing so will actually lead to higher college costs, because loans/grants/tax credits are directly related to the increasing cost of education.

Before we can find any solution, it is important to understand the root cause of the rising prices. Professor Lin finds that increased demand—fueled by improved job prospects for graduates and increased government assistance—is to blame for soaring tuition prices. Knowing the cause should inform our search for a solution.

    http://www.barenakedislam.com/2012/12/11/france-where-the-anti-islam-movement-is-spreading-like-wildfire/

FRANCE, where the anti-Islam movement is ‘spreading like wildfire!’

Anti-Islam acts have increased by 42% compared to the first ten months of 2012, according to a provisional report of the Observatoire contre l’islamophobie. And newly-elected French president, Francois Hollande, has shown no desire to do anything about it.

Islam vs Europe  The actual number is likely much higher because it only records actions about which a criminal complaint has been filed or that have appeared in a logbook. In the front line: places of worship and cemeteries. In addition to insulting emails, tags and fire-raising attempts, several have been defiled with heads of pigs or excrement.

Hundreds of French patriots in Paris come out to protest against Islamization of their country, chanting the French anthem and saying that Islam has no place in the country.

“There has been a multiplication and a banalisation of desecrations”, denounces Mohammed Moussaoui, president of the Conseil français du Culte musulman (CFCM) [French Council of the Muslim Religion]. The most striking action was the occupation, on 20 October, of the construction site of the Poitiers mosque by a far-right group. “For the first time, people sang warlike anti-Islam slogans openly,” stresses M. Moussaoui. We have reached a new level.”

Dozens of young French activists from the group Generation Identittaire stormed the unfinished mosque to protest immigration policies that have made France home to Europe’s largest population of Muslims.

Young French patriots against Islamization have formed Generation Identitaire, a movement that is spreading to other countries in Europe

Faced with these threats, at the beginning of October the CFCM demanded a “solemn declaration” from president François Hollande against the rise in Islamophobia. So far, he has remained silent.

Muslim protests against what they call “Islamophobia” are falling on deaf ears

Beyond actions that were clearly Islamophobic, “we have heard an uninhibited discourse, often negative towards Islam”, notes Franck Frégosi, director of research at CNRS and a specialist in Islam in Europe. For him, “what had been an attitude of the far right … is tending to spread like wildfire”. “Phobic sentiments” have been fed by various facts and a tense international context, he says, regretting that fact that some people make use of them “to say that Islam cannot be integrated into the Republic.”

Is it time to dump John Boehner?

Have you heard the slogan:  We fire no Boehner before his time?

    It's time.

    What do you think?

If Not Boehner, Then Who? We Have Options

    http://www.redstate.com/nedryun/2012/12/10/if-not-boehner-then-who-we-have-options/

Price, Jordan, and Hensarling Could Attract Enough Support

    If not Boehner, then who?
Last week, American Majority Action kicked off the trending #FireBoehner hastag on Twitter and began to pressure House members to abstain from voting for Speaker.
After speaking with the House Parliamentarian, we discovered the House precedent is actually interpreted to mean an absolute majority of votes cast for a specific candidate. So, House members do nothing by abstaining. However, the core idea remains: Without a majority (50% +1), the House is speakerless. If neither Boehner nor Pelosi win 50%, the House keeps voting until a new leader arises with a majority.
To get Boehner under 50%, we need to unite behind a candidate—or candidates. We have more than three weeks to choose.
American Majority Action is endorsing Tom Price, Jim Jordan, and Jeb Hensarling as candidates for Speaker and senior leadership.

Though Price has announced that he does not plan to run, all three would be a welcome change. All three have been staunch conservatives—standing up against the Bush spending sprees. They have each been in leadership and have significant support in the caucus.
The #FireBoehner movement has become a threat: If Speaker Boehner compromises with Obama and they propose a tax-hike together, Speaker Boehner will be finished.
#FireBoehner started after Boehner proposed a tax-hike and purged four key conservatives from their committees. The movement has had tremendous support so far, and more House members will join our cause if Boehner capitulates.
We cannot raise taxes on our small businesses right now. Any Republican who votes for a tax-hike will be primaried—we can guarantee that.
If Obama continues to force the issue, we agree with Senator Rand Paul: Let Democrats eat the tax-hikes. Republicans should vote “present” and let liberals own these awful polices.
We shouldn’t—conservatives shouldn’t—endorse any policy that will destroy jobs for normal Americans, as tax hikes would. We should be fighting for what works. Frankly, we should be looking at tax cuts. Reagan cut taxes 25% in 1981, during both a recession and fiscal crisis, and by the end of his term: Revenue from the highest bracket doubled, Americans created 20 million jobs, and youth unemployment fell 43%.
That’s what we should be fighting for—not a smaller tax hike.
    Boehner be warned.

maahslime v Jewish hate crime in the US

    http://www.barenakedislam.com/2012/12/11/american-communistislamofascist-sympathizers-are-wringing-their-hands-over-2011-muslim-hate-crime-stats/

American Communist/Islamofascist-sympathizers are wringing their hands over 2011 Muslim Hate Crime stats

From the radical leftists at the Southern Poverty Law Center (where BNI and other anti-Islam bloggers top their hate-groups list), we learn that that the FBI numbers for anti-Muslim hate crimes in the U.S. are about the same for 2011 as they were in 2010 when there was an “unprecedented 50% spike.” What they choose not to highlight is the fact that anti-Jewish hate crimes are still about 5 times higher than anti-Muslim hate crimes.

    Religious bias

FBI Hate crimes motivated by religious bias accounted for 1,318 offenses reported by law enforcement. A breakdown of the bias motivation of religious-biased offenses showed:

    • 62.2 percent were anti-Jewish.

    • 13.3 percent were anti-Islamic.

    • 5.2 percent were anti-Catholic.

    • 4.8 percent were anti-multiple religions, group.

    • 3.7 percent were anti-Protestant.

    • 0.3 percent were anti-Atheism/Agnosticism/etc.

    • 10.5 percent were anti-other religion. (Based on Table 1.)

SALON  Hate crimes against perceived Muslims, which jumped up 50% in 2010 largely as a result of anti-Muslim propagandizing, remained at relatively high levels last year, according to 2011 hate crime statistics released today by the FBI.

The bureau reported that there were 157 reported anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2011, down slightly from the 160 recorded in 2010. The 2011 crimes occurred during a period when Islam-bashing propaganda, which initially took off in 2010, continued apace.

SPLC claims that the FBI statistics, which are compilations of state numbers, are notoriously understated. Two Department of Justice studies have indicated that the real level of hate crimes in America is some 20-30 times the number reported in the FBI statistics, in part because some 56% of hate crimes are never reported to police and more than half of those that are are mischaracterized as non-hate crimes. Nevertheless, the FBI statistics can be used to get a sense of general trends.

Last year saw continued high levels of anti-Muslim propaganda such as the crusade by some against the alleged Muslim plan to impose religious Shariah law on the United States. There were a number of local battles over the construction of new mosques, and several were attacked by apparent Islamophobes.

At the same time, the FBI statistics suggested that there was a 31% drop in anti-Latino hate crimes, from 534 in 2010 to 405 last year. It’s not clear what might be behind that drop, other than an apparent diminution in anti-Latino and anti-immigrant propaganda as negative attention focused on Muslims.

SPLC’s Active Anti-Muslim Group List The number of anti-Muslim groups tripled in 2011, jumping from 10 groups in 2010 to 30 last year. That rapid growth in Islamophobia, marked by the vilification of Muslims by opportunistic politicians and anti-Muslim activists, began in August 2010, when controversy over a planned Islamic cultural center in lower Manhattan reached a fever pitch.

Things got worse later in the year, when Oklahoma residents voted to amend the state constitution to forbid the use of Islamic Shariah law in state courts — a completely unnecessary change, given that the U.S. Constitution rules that out. The overheated atmosphere generated by these events also helped spur a 50% jump in the FBI’s count of anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2010. Then, in March 2011, U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) held hearings on the radicalization of U.S. Muslims that seemed meant to demonize them. At the same time, there was a swelling of truly vicious propaganda from several bloggers.

ANTI-MUSLIM hate groups are a relatively new phenomenon in the United States, most of them appearing in the aftermath of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Earlier anti-Muslim groups tended to be religious in orientation and disputed Islam’s status as a respectable religion.

All anti-Muslim hate groups exhibit extreme hostility toward Muslims. The organizations portray those who worship Islam as fundamentally alien and attribute to its followers an inherent set of negative traits. Muslims are depicted as irrational, intolerant and violent, and their faith is frequently depicted as sanctioning pedophilia, marital rape and child marriage.

These groups also typically hold conspiratorial views regarding the inherent danger to America posed by its Muslim-American community. Muslims are depicted as a fifth column intent on undermining and eventually replacing American democracy and Western civilization with Islamic despotism. Anti-Muslim hate groups allege that Muslims are trying to subvert the rule of law by imposing on Americans their own Islamic legal system, Shariah law.

Anti-Muslim hate groups also broadly defame Islam, which they tend to treat as a monolithic and evil religion. These groups generally hold that Islam has no values in common with other cultures, is inferior to the West and is a violent political ideology rather than a religion.
